With so many couples in Ireland now shying away from the traditional church and hotel wedding, the demand is ever-increasing for unique and unusual wedding venues. One such venue is The Three Towers at the Slieve Aughty centre in County Galway. Located just a few miles from Loughrea where I am based, I had been dying to check out this eco-chic venue for a long time. The Three Towers combines an organic restaurant, relaxed bed and breakfast, rustic cabins, riding centre and a truly extraordinary wedding venue, ideal for couples that want a relaxed and different wedding experience. I took a trip out there recently with my little boy to have a look around, experience the food and learn more about their alternative wedding offering.
The Three Towers is located at the foot of the Slieve Aughty mountain, surrounded by extensive woodlands and rural beauty. The outdoor life is really a big part of the Three Towers, and so their pergola located in the gardens is ideal for those seeking a natural, outdoor ceremony (weather permitting, of course!). The Poplar Room is a really romantic room filled with light, perfect for an intimate ceremony. Again, once the weather is good, a drinks reception can be held outdoors, followed by a delicious organic meal served in the dining room.
One major issue that couples who want an alternative or exclusive wedding venue find is that they struggle to get accommodation for their guests on-site or nearby. The Three Towers is suitable for weddings of up to 70 people, with accommodation on-site for 32 people. There are lots of bed and breakfasts in the area and the Lough Rea Hotel & Spa is about ten minutes away by car for additional accommodation needs.
The truly homely feel of The Three Towers is further strengthened by their attention to detail, with brilliant options available for children’s entertainment, stone baked pizza parties, organic cakes and the opportunity to arrive to your wedding ceremony on horseback.
Buffet and sit-down meal options are available depending on how relaxed you want your wedding to be – and wonderfully, prices are far lower than many of the ‘exclusive’ or ‘alternative’ wedding venues around the country. With very few options for more unusual venues in this part of the country, The Three Towers certainly deserves to become a household name, and indeed they were recently named in One Fab Day’s Top 100 Wedding Venues for 2016. For those not planning a wedding, this venue is still a wonderfully relaxed place to come for a cup of tea or coffee, a day out with the kids, a Friday night pizza party or indeed for a learning experience at one of their many workshops throughout the year.
